CSUSB softball left-fielder Tory Beaudette was selected for ESPN The Magazine's all District 8 academic team this year.
“It is a great honor and a great achievement,” Beaudette said.
The team was selected by a vote of collegiate sports information directors in the district. Beaudette was one of two players in the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) conference to receive this honor.
The other player to achieve this accolade was sophomore Ashley Jackson from San Francisco State.
Not only did Beaudette succeed in the classroom, she also succeeded on the field by leading her team in hitting with a .333 overall batting average and a .348 in conference play.
Beaudette also hit six home runs, had 26 RBI (runs batted in), 12 doubles and was hit by 19 pitches this season. She also scored 28 runs, had an on base percentage of .486, and a slugging percentage of .622 and stole 9 bases.
Not only was Beaudette an ace at the plate, she was an ace on the field with a fielding percentage of .986, making just two errors out of 59 tries in left field.
“It was a successful season for me," Beaudette said. "But I cannot jump up and down because as a team we did not have a good as season as we wanted to.”
Beaudette was happy with the way she performed and the nomination to the District 8 academic team really helped her cap off the season with a positive feeling because it was her final one as a Coyote softball player.
To even qualify for this award, athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and appear in at least half of their team's games. Beaudette succeeded with a 3.71 GPA.
“I manage my time between school, softball and work very well,” Beaudette said. “You have to be able to stay focused, set goals and strive for success and if you do that it is not as difficult as it seems to manage your time.”
Beaudette is a Kinesiology major with a concentration in exercise science and will be graduating this year with a Bachelor's degree.
Beaudette works as a personal trainer right now and has the aspirations to further her education by getting her teaching credential, so she can become a biology teacher. She wants to teach anatomy or sociology.
“I have learned and experienced so much since walking on to this campus, and learned not to be so hard on myself but pace myself to where I feel I am at a proper level to better myself as a student and athlete,” Beaudette said. “I have learned to understand success and failures and have matured through the process of understanding the consequences of both but overall I enjoyed my softball career as a Coyote.”
