Some students have picked up on what moisturizers to use, how to apply just enough to compliment their natural features, how to create a sexier look and not a scary one, and the biggest one of all how and what make-up works.
On Wednesday, May 13, the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) hosted an event where CSUSB female students got the opportunity to enhance their natural beauty with professional freelance make-up artist Victoria.
Victoria Saddington, from England, has been doing professional make-up for over 20 years.
After becoming a certified esthetician, Saddington moved onto stage, runway, and freelance make-up which gave her the experience and knowledge to know how to correctly work with it.
“Ever since I was younger I always found myself playing with make-up and trying new things,” Saddington said.
Through trial and error and with her background, Saddington is now able to find the products that are legit and better for your skin.
Many female CSUSB students attended the event and where taught many tricks and tips of how to deal with make-up.
“Not everyone needs altering and people should not be afraid to try new things because it always washes off,” said Saddington.
Saddington’s purpose is not to tell women that they need make-up, her focus is to emphasize that if someone wants to use make-up they can and there is a certain way to do it but not that they need to.
“Women are taught to look beautiful but never taught how to achieve the looks they want,” WRC graduate assistant Dolores Montoya said.
Women learn how to apply and use make-up through watching the women they grew up with but now with so many options and styles, old processes no longer work.
Anyone can use the different colors and styles; the thing is that you need to know how to apply it to your specific face.
No one has the same face, some people have droopy eyes, light or dark skin, round or slimmer faces, and there are those who don’t need any enhancement at all.
“Confidence is a huge part of make-up because you can have the best make-up and the perfect outfit but if your confidence is low that is all anyone is going to see,” Saddington said.
Many looks are inspired by the make-up artists in the malls, girls in magazines and overall media, but when actually trying to imitate the look no one is satisfied with the results.
Through events like these, Saddington has shown girls the easy and quick steps it takes to replicate the fashionable looks they are in search for.
Many girls have agreed that they like wearing make-up but they don’t know if they are doing it right.
All the women who attended enjoyed having someone show them step by step how to apply make-up and when and where to use certain types.
Saddington is contracted for many events including small group parties where she teaches them the process of make-up.
